I am an award winning freelance writer, special needs parenting expert and even have a monthly humor column in Westchester Family magazine (NY). My feature articles (which cover topics such as Dysgraphia, Autism Service Dogs, Vacationing with Special Needs Children, Dining Out with Allergies, Play Based Learning, Using Visual Strategies, Social Stories and many more) have been published in regional, national and international publications. My personal essays on Asperger’s have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul – Raising Kids on the Spectrum and Parenting magazine’s special April 2013 1 in 50 edition. When I am not writing you can find me speaking in public about autism acceptance.

 

About Neil McNerney, LPCNeil McNerney

Neil is a licensed professional counselor who has been licensed in the state of Virginia since 1994. He spent seven years as a school counselor, dealing with most of the issues in this book. Neil is on the teaching faculty of the Virginia Tech Graduate School of Marriage and Family Therapy, where he teaches clinical techniques for working with children in a family context. He speaks and trains nationally and regularly provides workshops and keynotes at state and national professional conferences. He has helped develop a parent training program that is being used by hundreds of professionals worldwide. The main focus of Neil’s work is increasing motivation in children and increasing the leadership skills of parents.
